Sketching exercise
We both came up with pretty similar stuff while sketching as we already had a very strong idea about what kind of game we were going to do.
How we converged on our game idea + AR interaction
From the start we had a bunch of good ideas but decided on this one almost in the first week because it seemed interesting and easy to show the cultural heritage aspect of it, whilst making a functional and fun game. We had to think about the AR interaction a lot but finally decided on the room being the battlefield or potentially actual physical objects being used as cover and obstacles.
Expert council feedback
We got a ton of great feedback from the expert council, especially about the design of our game. They enjoyed the game concept of it and the idea, but were worried about specific design aspects.
The biggest three factors we extracted from the feedback were the following:
- EU values
- There was a question of which and how much we were reflecting on the EU values
- As we are aiming for equality, the discussion lead to a potential meter to measure how good or bad of a god you are with some repercussions. This could potentially be combined with another suggestion of having the armies attack you (god).
- A discussion we had after the presentation about this issue also sparked the idea of starting off with unequal armies, with you having to tip the scales.
- In the recap after the presentations we also discussed taking the inverse of the values, such as using inequality instead of equality. We were also encouraged to look at procedural rhetorics, by tying in the values through gameplay rather than spoken word, writing or images.

- Goal of the game
- This has been a difficult and recurring issue for us, as the initial idea was contained to a sandbox mode where there were no explicit goals to the game, other than having fun. In the recap we got the suggestion to tie it with other lacking factors, like the EU values. We will be doing that moving forward.
- Art and Culture
- Lastly, as our prototype had very basic imported models we were asked how we were incorporating the art and cultural heritage. This is something we'll definitely take a look at. Be it using the art style or color scheme from the painting such as team colors, or integrating some parts of the painting into the environment, even if it's horse sprites using raycasting.
The video of the prototype shown in the slides for good measure:
